Kenworthy’s Chambers’ statement in support of the Criminal Bar Association’s ‘Days of Action’ and ‘No New Instructions’

Kenworthy’s Chambers Criminal Law Team fully endorses the result of the Criminal Bar Association ballot announced on Monday 20th of June 2022.

We will be participating in the forthcoming days of action and adopting new measures set out below:

1. Days of action on the 27th and 28th of June 2022

2. Days of action on the 4th, 5th, and 6th of July 2022

3. Days of action on the 11th, 12th, 13th, and 14th of July 2022

4. A full week of action commencing on the 18th of July 2022

5. Action suspended for a week commencing on the 25th of July 2022

6. A full week of action commencing on the 1st of August 2022

7. Action suspended for a week commencing on the 8th of August 2022

8. A full week of action commencing on the 15th of August 2022

9. This pattern of alternating weeks is then set to continue indefinitely. It will remain under review and subject to the response of the Government.

10. From 27th June Barristers will not be accepting new instructions on Advocates' Graduated Fee Scheme (AGFS) cases. Put very simply, it means, from 27th June onwards, Kenworthy’s Barristers are not accepting instructions for cases in which they are not already instructed (‘new instructions’) but continuing to accept instructions concerning cases in which they are already instructed (ongoing instructions).

The criminal justice system is in serious jeopardy. Kenworthy’s Chambers priority is to safeguard the criminal justice system, which is currently failing.
