Nick Roxborough has a busy and varied practice across the criminal and family courts. He represents clients in a range of matters and is regarded for his thorough preparation, case presentation and building strong relationships with his clients.

Criminal Law

Nick Roxborough is a Barrister who specialises in Criminal Law. He has built a busy practice in crime prosecuting and defending cases on both a private and legal aid basis in the Crown Court.

He regularly deals with Crime cases ranging from robbery, to drug trafficking, conspiracy, and possession with intent. He has represented defendants in serious cases including high volume drug trafficking and has secured acquittals in matters involving serious violence and fraud.

Criminal Barrister Nick Roxborough has been successful on numerous occasions in having matters dismissed before and during trial on technical issues. He is well versed in driving matters and has successfully argued against driving disqualifications on many cases.

Nick also prosecutes and has been instructed to prosecute and defend in cases of serious violence, domestic abuse, sexual offences, drugs, fraud, and weapon offences.

As a Criminal Barrister, Nick often covers matters for more Senior Counsel in the most serious of cases.

Family and Finance

Nick Roxborough represents parents and other family members in areas of Family Law including domestic abuse, domestic violence injunctions, and the Private Law Children Act. He has been instructed at all stages of proceedings ranging from FHDRAs and non-molestation orders to complex finding of fact hearings concerning domestic violence and sexual abuse.

Prior to commencing Pupillage, Nick gained invaluable experience working as a Paralegal at Bolton Metropolitan Borough Council. He worked closely with Solicitors and Counsel, assisting with all aspects of case management, frequently preparing briefs and clerking Counsel.

+ Notable Cases

·        R v G - Secured an acquittal following a three-day affray trial which hinged on arguments relating to self-defence and reasonable force.

·        R v C - Successfully argued in favour of a suspended sentence for a defendant who had pleaded guilty to offences involving a significant breach of trust.

·        R v W - Secured acquittals following a three-day trial in involving serious allegations of domestic violence.

·        R v P - Successfully argued in favour of a suspended sentence for a client who was told he was facing inevitable custody by the sentencing Judge.

·        Nick Roxborough prosecuted a passenger who entered an aircraft drunk, used threatening words and behaviour, and failed to obey the command of the pilot on a TUI flight from Almeria, Spain to Manchester UK.

·        Nick represented Ali Parsa after he repeatedly breached the terms of his restraining order two months after it was issued.

·        Nick Roxborough prosecuted Levi Lowther who admitted failure to stop after a crash that left passengers with serious injuries and driving without a licence or insurance. He was disqualified from driving for eight and a half years.

·        He prosecuted an axe-wielding man who tried to set fire to petrol pumps on Lock Mill Petrol Station’s forecourt. Adam Langtree pleaded guilty to attempted arson, possession of a bladed article, and being reckless as to whether life was endangered.

·        Nick represented cleaner Brenda Carberry who stole heirlooms, cash, and jewellery from her clients’ homes and sold them on eBay. Despite this breach of trust, the judge did not send her to prison.

·        Nick Roxborough prosecuted Sobhan Azizi who repeatedly attacked his wife with a metal pole. He was given a restraining order which banned him from contacting his wife for seven years.

·        Nick Roxborough acted as Defence Counsel for Nadia Stanway in a case reported by the Daily Mail.

·        Nick Roxborough successfully prosecuted TeeJay Etchells who breached his lifetime restraining order by attending his ex’s home, dragging her upstairs and punching her in the face, leaving her with a suspected fractured jaw. Etchells was given a jail sentence of two years and eight months for breaching the restraining order and assaulting his ex.

·        Nick Roxborough secured an acquittal at a three-day affray trial in Preston which hinged on arguments relating to self-defence and reasonable force.
